Welcome to Child of the Dark

Out of the darkness, into the light.
I am ‘Phantom’s Child,’ aka ‘Christine.’ This blog is my journal, my diary, my voice.
My reasons for writing are simple. Incest is a taboo subject, but in order to heal, one must not only accept the past as reality, but not be ashamed of what happened (I’ll explain more about that later). I’m not quite there yet, my journey is only beginning. So far everything I’ve read basically says, as a victim, I need to give a voice to the scared child inside, who until now (almost 20 years later) has remained silent.
Something has brought you here; perhaps it’s your past, your present, or your wondering at the future. Perhaps you share an understanding of the pain that has remained unspoken. Perhaps you are looking for your voice.
My goal with this blog is to give voice to the injustice I experienced, to vent about how it has affected me and my new family all these years later, and to perhaps help someone else in doing so. To let other victims of child abuse victims know that they are not alone, and they do not have to suffer in silence.
So WELCOME! I discuss a lot of various subjects from Confronting the Abuser, Whether to Forgive the Abuser or not, and I’ve been tracking my progress personally. Click thru the different subjects under ‘Journaling’ and hopefully you’ll find something that helps you with your own progress, or perhaps, helps you to understand a loved one’s issues better.
If you are a mother and have a child who was victimized, or are wondering how to protect your own children from what you experienced, I suggest you also see the blog “Ariel’s Solace.” There ‘Ariel’ discusses the complexities that a mother deals with as they uncover what happened to their children, and where to go from there. She has been dealing with these issues herself for over 16 years.
Thank you for coming. Please feel free to comment on what you read, whether or not you found something informative or helpful, or what ever you feel. The goal is to feel like our voices are heard, so I’d love to hear yours.
Coming Soon! I’m going to start doing book reviews, on books with the subject matter of healing, and I’m working on linking up with an online store geared to these needs. So Hang tight! It’s a work in progress.
Please Note!!! This blog is NOT intended for condoning and/or criticizing ANY form of traditional or alternative therapies. I am NOT an “expert,” and this blog is NOT intended to substitute for medical and/or psychological counsel. If you need help, PLEASE seek out someone who is QUALIFIED to provide said help.
The intent of this blog is only to convey information, and share my personal experiences. (In other words, what may/or may not work for me, may have a different outcome for you. Do your research, and do what works for you.)
If urgently need help now:
- Please call: National Sexual Assault Hotline : 1(800)656-4673
- Or search your local listings for rape/child abuse centers: (State funded programs are often free, but be prepared to be put on a waiting list. Where I’m living the wait is at least 6 weeks).
- Or search your local listings for Therapists. (Some may be specifically trained to deal with sexual assault and/or child abuse issues. Some operate on a “sliding scale,” meaning what you pay is based on your income.)
- Also many Hospitals have Qualified Personnel on hand if you need someone to speak to. (Although the most immediate help one could receive, probably the most expensive, unless you have really good insurance or go to a State Owned hospital.)
You DO have options! You are NOT alone! And you CAN get help!
